Political Surrealism
Who protests genocide?
Conservative media and political elites like Tucker Carlson, Candace Owen, Majorie Taylor Greene, Alex Jones and the late Charlie Kirk have come to see support for Israel as undermining white Christian nationalism and the US constitution. They are America Firsters who resent the prominence and influence of Israel in domestic politics.
The dominant view among Republicans and Democrats is that Israel represents a vital and incomparable American interest, but perhaps it is not strange that the most popular critics of the Israel lobby are right-wing isolationists.
But the weird thing is, where are the elite liberal and progressive voices expressing shock and dismay at support for Israel? Where are they? Who are they? Hello, is there anyone in Congress and in corporate media who calls out Israel for systemic racism, state terrorism and fascism?
So we have the scenario in which it is conservative elites, not liberal elites, who critique Israel. What does this say about the American political landscape? In fact, it is liberal elites, not conservative elites, who seek to illegally suppress the Green Party for its principled anti war and anti Zionist platform!
American politics is fracturing. We see the same thing writ large in Britain where the Reform Party just shit-canned the Labour Party and the Conservative Party. This is the party of the white nationalist, Nigel Farage.
Here in the US, we need to correctly diagnose the problem of Israel for its violent racism, subversion of the Constitution and the international liberal order. We must oppose Israel not as isolationists, but on the basis of political and social justice. We must be pro-Palestinian as the correct moral and diplomatic policy, and not because we support a racist Christian nationalist isolationism.
The special problem of American politics is the lock on electoral politics by the duopoly. Unlike Britain, we cannot easily recast political possibilities. The militarized corporate state is our tyrannical king who controls both political parties, and which regards The People as vassals. Politics in America is way more recidivist than in Britain.
